Took some pictures after doing a water change and rescuing these dudes from the waste water!!

The dish they are in is the same circumference as a cat food tin, just to give you an idea of how small these little treasures are!!

They are so tiny I am amazed you spotted them.  I know you lost some of your shrimp but this must make it all worthwhile.

Thanks all!

Anne, I only spotted them by chance really. I remembered Sue saying she checked her waste water before chucking it out so I had a good look into my bucket and sure enough, there they were!!

Cod, They have a slightly red/orange tinge to them at the mo. Mum was red and Dad was either red or blue. I don't know which colour is dominant in shrimp genetics but at the mo, I'm putting my money on them being red.  It will be interesting to see if mummy blue's babies have the same tint, although how I'll tell which are hers I don't know. Maybe I should issue them all with badges!!!

Hee hee, everyone!
Just looked into my shrimpery and found 3 babies!!
So cute and so tiny!
I'm very relieved as it must mean that they're happy (I was worried that something might be wrong when the female dropped her eggs a while back. It can be a sign that something's wrong with their environment).

Think I may have to celebrate with a glass of wine tonight! ;D

*EDIT*

Oh no!
I didn't think! Do they need special food? I'm going away for 4 days tomorrow and I've no chance of getting anything by then!

Congratulations on the new additions!!

I am feeding mine on very finely ground shrimp cuisine and flake and they are also spending quite a lot of time in amongst the substrate so I guess there must be tasty stuff down there too!!

You can buy special food but I don't think it's 100% necessary.

Thank you! nUmbers are now up to 9. Seb says they hide for 3 days after being born, so I'll probably see more later. I asked him about 'baby' food and he confirmed that the shrimp cuisine is fine.

Finely ground shrimp cuisine is what I used too, after the last female died leaving me with a dozen newborns. Since I now have an uncountable number of cherry shrimps all derived from that dozen, it must do something.

Another place you may have to check is inside your filter. I found quite large shrimp living in my filter quite often before they all got eaten.

That's another brilliant feature of the filter recommended by Sue. The plastic casing is fairly transparent, so you can see any renegades that might have escaped into the filter. Of course, it's only for small tanks, but I'm pretty sure there's a range to fit other sizes of tank.

Here are my babies at a week and 4 days old!!  I have about a million of them ( ok - slight exaggeration but there must be 20+) in the tank now, all zooming around like little helicopters. It is a bit like watching the comings and goings at an airport!!!

One quick question not baby related - Can anyone confirm for me if the large yellow shrimp is male or female? I thought it was female but am now wondering if she is in fact a he?!

I've never been 100% sure what sex my shrimps are just by looking at them. The only way I can be sure which are females is if they have a saddle or eggs. But the way you are supposed to be able to tell is by the shape of the abdomen. Males are supposed to be flatter than females as they don't have to carry eggs.

Yes, it's tricky isn't it?!

I'll ask on the shrimp forum too!

I have watched the yellow for ages today and when it swims, it's abdomen does not extend over it's swimmerettes. It has also never been berried and I can't see any evidence of a saddle. If this is the case, then one of my blues who I have named Betty, may need to be renamed Basil!!! Which leaves me with three males and two females. Plus lots of babies of unknown gender!!
