Title: Food For Amano Shrimp Recommendations
Post by: TopCookie on October 02, 2018, 11:41:43 AM
Can any of you guys recommend food specifically intended for Amano shrimps...?

The clean up crew (and better "housekeeping" in general) have finally reduced algae levels in the tank to the point of not really being able to visually see it any more and for a while now various plants have come under attack...  Between the snails and the shrimp, they've almost completely destroyed all the stem plants in the tank and have now moved onto the Amazon Sword varieties, slowly picking away two or three leaves at a time...  I have, for a while now, increased the amount of algae wafers in the feeding routine but the Amano shrimp in particular are just a bit too fond of eating plants...!!!  What I could do with is some shrimp specific food to add to the regular feeding routine - something to distract them from consuming every plant in the tank, lolol...   :vcross:  ;D

Hi TC,
I'd suggest here https://www.pro-shrimp.co.uk/13-shrimp-food as a starter-for-ten inspiration...

Thanks @fcmf  :)   Had a look in there, but there are so many that it's a bit bewildering...  ???

Most of the time my amanos just run off with an algae wafer, but I've also tried this https://www.pro-shrimp.co.uk/shrimplab/823-shrimplab-algae-granules-30g-0603803084385.html and they went nuts for it.

When I first had cherry shrimps I had problems keeping them alive so when the final female's eggs hatched to live shimplets I fed them on crushed-to-powder Hikari Shrimp Cuisine. They seemed to thrive on this, and as they grew I eventually fed them uncrushed food. Once I finished the bag I didn't get any more though and the current shrimps feed on algae and whatever they can steal from the fish (which includes Northfin Kelp tabs). The experimental shrimps in the betta's tank get crushed Northfin tabs as they are a bit on the big side to leave whole.
