A couple of months ago I bought some MTS from an ebay seller. The snails from there all grew into similar looking adults however their offspring are a little different.

The originals are a creamy white with some brown patches however some of the offspring are browner with a far more ridged shell.

Why would this be?

Hello Fiona,

Could it be that the seller had unwittingly kept them short of calcium/carbonate?

Could it be the change in water? I bought some patterned nerites a while ago and the pattern on their shells changed direction since being in my tank.

With only being young in the world of invertebrates, only brought cherry shrimp yesterday. I would hazard a guess that it could be something with their diet or environment as Skittler and Cod has suggested.

I do have very hard water, I've no idea of the conditions they were raised in, however it could well be that.
