Title: Matt’s Betta Greta
Post by: Matt on June 08, 2019, 07:38:44 PM
Got a new friend today!...

Let's just say I didn't put up much of a fight when Mrs Matt suggested the idea in my LFS earlier.

Tank was set up whilst she temperature acclimated in my big tank! Bit impulsive perhaps but it's something I've researched before....

Anyway... this is Greta  :fishy1:

Greta is indeed beautiful 8), and I can absolutely see why no fight was put up against Mrs Matt's sensible suggestion of homing her.

Looking forward to reading more about her in due course.

What a lucky betta / https://www.thinkfish.co.uk/fish/siamese-fighting-fish-female.html to have such a beautiful home but she does deserve it given what a beauty she is.

[Argh - you're turning me fish-broody again!]

The tanks looks great.  :afro

Every time I look at Greta I think of the betta I reserved at the local MA previously, which unfortunately died before I collected him. He was a koi plakat, and had he survived I think he would have made lovely looking babies with Greta.

Now she's settled in her colours are outstanding... I'll have to try and get an up to date photo soon... i got her from Maidenhead Aquatics. They sold out quick and I got her by asking if the tank of female Betta's was on sale (despite it clearly saying they weren't!) They said no then came back to me a few mins to say the manager had said they could sell them now bit that they were all reserved sorry. Then another few mins later, they realised not all were reserved and said I could have first pick!...

Yes please do, ok thanks for letting me know. Do you intend to breed her?

Set a reminder for this and for fcmf to get requested photos in the morning

I don't plan to breed her, with my 13 week old son, I am probably more likely to downsize than upside things!... it is a nice idea though... I have the perfect spot for another tank of the same dimensions next to the existing one... oh dear I will log off now!

Thanks everyone... the tank she's in is not doing so well after I stupidly managed to squeeze the sponge filter whilst in the tank and released a load of crud... it's a bit of a bodge job affair built from spares... I might have to get a hang on back or I might have to see how she does in my community tank... too many tanks and not enough time!! Fortunately it doesn't show in the photo   :-[

Updated photo as recently promised... taken me a while to get round to taking it!!

Lots of Buce added and some crypts and dwarf sag which will grow from the back centre.

Hi @Matt

Impressive!

Is it 'ready to roll' or do you still need to add a filter, pipework, etc? Personally, I don't like the glass inlet/Lily pipe/spray bar that adorns some aquascapers' tanks - I think it detracts from the natural beauty of an aquarium. It's even worse seeing stainless steel in the tank, which seems to be a feature of Amano's tanks. Stainless steel! And very expensive stainless steel at that! :o

There’s a heater and air powered sponge filter hidden in the left back

Is Greta in there? I'm struggling to see her (but am wondering if I need to bring forward my next optician appointment...).

No she went into hiding for the photo! I tried to get her in a good position for it and she took a dislike to accidentally being poked  :rotfl:

There's no photographing a fish that doesn't want to behave.  :)
