Got a surprise this morning

Got a bit of a surprise this morning.

I have some plastic Chinese takeaway containers I keep various fish keeping items in... Food, fetilizer tabs etc.

I also have some for my excess moss.  One of these contains some moss I got out of my Peppered Cory tank that had come away from the rock it was super glued to.

I had put it in a container and put some tak water and put it on my window cill. This was about 2 weeks ago.

Went to into the "fish room" ie spare bedroom this morning and for some reason had a look at the moss and to my surprise there was about 10 fry swimming about - maybe more under the moss.

So no heater and no air stone and I have fry swimming about in an old Chinese takeaway container.

I will have to rethink where my Peppered Cory fry are going to go. I have 6 25mm Cory's growing in a 20 litre tank and 5 adults in the 64 litre. I might have to get another tank.

Think I will get another tank.

I have just built another rack to hold 5 - 40cm x 30cm x 30cm.

This fish keeping in not a cheap pastime.

It's amazing how resilient some fish can be. It will be the moss that has kept the fry alive - oxygenated the water, taken up the ammonia, grown infusoria all over it to feed the fry.

Yes, this sort of thing does happen. It's happened to me with corys. Took plants out of a tank and put them in a washing up bowl kept specifically for plats/fish stuff. A few weeks later, spotted a little cory in the bowl.
Always check plants & moss, they can contain some adorable little surprises.  :)

I have some photos but trying to get them to the size needed to post on forum seems a little difficult.

I could do with some advice about moving the fry.

Would they be okay moving them to a hang on fry isolation box.

I have some fry food. So if I move them I could feed them. Would I need to put the moss in with them.

Any help would be appreciated.

Are you posting from a phone or tablet? I use an app called "Reduce Photo Size" if that helps...

I'm definately no expert on raising fry but... the fry box - is it one of those mesh ones or a solid plastic one? Trying to vague how it's different though, particularly in respect to filtration? If bigger than your current container then it will be a step up either way.

I would definately move the moss - it's served them well so far!!.

I would also be careful feeding so as not to create any waste that cannot be dealt with and will affect water quality. Let use know about your fry box and filtration options and we can go from there. They are safe for a few days I'm sure while we figure things out.

Thanks I will do a search for the app.

It's a plastic fry box.  It is basically like a hang on back filter without the media.

It has a tube that fits into the aquarium and an overflow part and is run off a air pump.

Here are some pictures (hopefully)

The 40 is viewed from the end. And one of my little Peppered Cory's can be seen lower right.

The 40 and the 90 sit on breeze blocks and 2x4 wood. Got the idea from Aquarium co-op on U-Tube. Cheap aquarium stand.
