Thought i'd share this with you all as it made me chuckle.
I ordered some nerite snails from ebay and yesterday they arrived. All still alive and raring to go!!!
But do you think they were the 5 nerite snails i had expected???? Of course not, it would be a boring tale otherwise!!
So i got,
1 orange tracked nerite
1 zigzag nerite
1 other type of nerite not sure what yet - now identified as dusky nerite
All good so far!!
I also got,
1 devil snail
1 batman snail ( which is a nerite, i believe)
1 other type of trumpet snail which could be a MTS
I was astounded by the devil snail he is big!!! Also by the freebie, note that i have listed 6 snails when i only wanted 5!!
All very lovely though and i am not upset about what i did get, just surprised!!!!
Photos attached of the devil snail with the tracked nerite hitchhiking and the other trumpet snail that i 'm not sure of yet.

The pointy snail could be an MTS or possibly a rabbit/elephant/sulawesi snail (same snail, different names, one of the Tylomelania genus).
Photos of the shells of the others would help, one advantage with snails is they keep still for the camera ;D

Yes even i can manage photos of snails!!!
Here is the other nerite that i'm not sure of. I thought it could be another batman snail but i'm not convinced?
EDIT - I've just found him!!! He's a baseball hat or red lipped nerite (Neritina pulligera). apparently also called a dusky nerite.

I also meant to ask what everyones opinion of calcium blocks for snails is. My concern is they will affect my water parameters.

I'm interested to know why a calcium block would be helpful I've got 3 Nerite snails, but I don't give them anything extra – they just seem to survive off algae and anything else that's in the tank. I must admit, though, I have wondered if they're a bit neglected diet-wise ???

The calcium is for their shells. In soft acid water snail shells can corrode. But if there is enough calcium (ie hardness) in the water, they don't need calcium blocks.
I have an alkaline pH (7.5 ish) but moderately soft water with a hardness of 6 German deg. With those parameters my snails don't have problems with their shells.

My water seems to be pretty similar to yours with a PH of 7.6 and KH os 3 - 6 german degrees. So mine should be fine without extra calcium? Am i right?
Would the same rule apply to shrimps as I hope to get some eventually.

What is your GH as that's the measure of calcium. Or did you mean to type GH instead of KH :)
Cherry and amano shrimps can live in soft acidic water through to hard alkaline.
I have amano and cherry shrimps. I bought the amanos on 18 Feb 2009 and I still have the last remaining male. The cherries were trickier when I first got them last year but Natalia on here helped me with them, suggesting they were dying off because of a shrimp specific bacterium in my tanks. With her help, I now have a thriving colony of cherry shrimps. So my water is fine for both those shrimp species.

GH 17 is classed as very hard so definitely no need for calcium blocks.
