Surprising

well today has been a funny day for me .
the day started off with a trip to a garden centre with fish shop and i was a very good boy and didn't buy anything (was very hard to resist ) and upon my return to home my weekly tank clean was due so decided to get on with it , at which point i noticed the pressure of one of the external filters was low so decided it was due for a clean , nothing surprising so far , but at this point i should point out that for the last week i have been treating my tank for white spot with melafix and high temp of 30 c and a uv light this has been succesful except for the fact that after 4 days of this i noticed all my shrimp had disappeared i just assumed that the medication and heat had been to much for them and that the fish had greedily eaten the bodies , well i removed the lid of the filter removed the first basket and then nearly jumped threw the roof as something moved and low and behold it was a shrimp after carefully removing all the baskets sure enough swimming happily in the bottom was all 8 of my missing shrimp, looking none the worse for there little adventure and are now happily back in the main tank scurrying around and iam happy again as i have to admit i missed the little things alot.obviously the tank temp was not to there liking so off they went on there little adventure .
just thort i would share this happy little story with you all as it has made my day

the  melafix was recommended to me by someone as a way of  stopping the fish getting a secondary infection as the white spot left the fish and the heat and uv light to actualy kill the parasite , i must admit to being dubious as to weather this would work or not but as most white spot medication kills shrimp and also can be harmful to loaches i decided that it was worth a try as i already had a uv system sitting in a box just needed plumbing into one of my external filter's 2 of my loaches had it quite bad tail and body and a 3 rd had it in its tail, i ran this for 14 days now all have been clean of white spot for 7 days but i am still running the uv light for a few more weeks to make sure that all of the parasite has been removed.seems to have worked and now all shrimp have been found safe and alive i am very happy.

thank you colin , its even better to have a success story after all the troubles of the first two week losses then to discover white spot i was feeling very down in the dumps but stuck with it and there's light at the end of the tunnel now thinking what to add next into the tank but want to wait another 7 days to be sure everything is ok. 

I love a happy ending....but they make me 

Well would you believe it - I introduced 2 shrimp a few weeks back with one being quite a bit larger than the other. After adding them to the tank the larger one settled in fine but I never saw the smaller one again - MIA presumed munched.

However, I decided to give the (internal) filter a bit of a fettle yesterday and there it was, sat there alive and well giving me the eye(s) 

I've now 'fished' it out and after a bit of initial nervousness it now seems happy as Larry back in the main tank.

Being scavengers they must obviously be able to live off the bits and bobs that the filter pulls through, although it is much smaller than my other shrimp (which I know has at least moulted twice since I've had it) so it doesn't seem that it's diet can have been as good. Hopefully it will start to grow a bit now 

I've only just seen this thread great news about your missing shrimp!!

I have that problem at the moment I only have 1 cherry shrimp left the others mysteriously vanished, I do wonder if he's a little lonely poor thing but he seems happy enough!

I'm sure he'll be alright on his own...sounds like he's enjoying himself anyway!
