My first occupants

Thanks to the help and advice on here my tank is now ready for fish, having decided to stick with the hard water and choose fish that were happy in these conditions I got a basic stock list and armed with this went to the only aquatics shop in my area I hadn't used previously. I did my research on the shop first and found it to have excellent reviews and has won awards, the owners have been keeping fish for over 50 years and breed a lot of the stock themselves.

I wasn't disappointed, the fish all looked healthy, the staff were very knowledgable. They checked I had done correct fish less cycling before even entertaining selling me anything rather than just the usual 'how long has the tank been set up'. They are happy to special order some of the less common species I am interested in. They were concerned that I had chosen know fin nippers, but then relaxed as I haven't any plans for fish with extravagant fins.

So after some browsing and advice I have come home with the first fish for my tank

6 glow light danios
2 hybrid plecs (bred in store with a max size of 6inches)
1 white tail plec.

Just got to hope they all settle in well

Do you have bogwood in your tank? It's considered essential for the long-term health of plecs.

Richard I do have wood, but unsure if it's bog wood, had plecs in my previous tank and they flourished, it is the same wood.

Colin, it is a rare find and luckily on my doorstep, their customers travel from the neighbouring counties and they are a discus specialist, but cater for ALL fish keeping. The owner has even offered to show me the breeding pair of plecs and their new babies as I have a particular fondness for them.

The shop is in Leicestershire, anyone that would like more info I am happy to share.

Pics will be up when the newbies have settled  :)

Jensen, It's called Clearwater aquatics, they are up near the general hospital.

Where in Leicester were you?

Thanks, I want a fairly natural look and good variety with the fish, just starting, but have a few ideas, hopefully will turn out ok

It's on green lane road, just in from where it crosses Coleman road. I had to use a map to find it after a google search of fish shops in the area.

lovely bristle nose plecs there. they do stay at 6 inches or less but they can breed easily. i have just put a pair in my tank. great little cleaners. they also like spirulina based algae pellets, cucumber and green string beans.
