Title: Selling shrimp/fish
Post by: JymDastardly on November 18, 2020, 08:37:26 AM
Morning all!

Does anyone have advise on selling shrimp?  I am thinking of setting some tanks up for shrimp as a food source for cichlids and maybe to sell.  I'm not thinking of selling to make loads of money, just a few ££ here and there to offset the hobby.  Glass shrimp and low grade cherries would be my first go to.

Any advise would be much appreciated.

I have bought shrimps - and swapped shrimps - via this forum and Ebay. There is also https://www.aquarist-classifieds.co.uk/  Some shops will also buy them off you, usually for store credit.

Shrimps can be posted, but they need a heat pad inside a polystyrene box. Royal Mail do allow invertebrates but they must be posted using Special Delivery by 1 pm next day, and the buyer and seller should agree a day for delivery before they are posted.

Shrimps need something to stand on in the bag, whether posted or collected in person. Anything from a chunk of plant to a bit of filter wool.

Its likely that if you bought higher grade shrimp you could selectively breed the very best to demand a premium price - you will always get some that you would also need to sell at a lower grade too.  I'm thinking of doing it myself... let me know how you plan to package them if you go for it!
