Title: Panda Corys - I succumbed.
Post by: notungz on April 13, 2014, 09:24:29 AM
Hi All.

After seeing everyone raving about Panda Corys, I finally succumbed and bought four of them yesterday. They certainly are very cute.  :)

They are alone in my 64 litre tank at the moment, but I will be moving my six Neon Tetras and six Cherry Barbs in as well. I was thinking of getting a Dwarf Gourami as well. What do you think? I thought that would be a nice small community and free up my 100cm, 160 litre tank as a slightly larger community tank.

Thanks,
Ian

My folks almost have the exact same combo in their 60l (they have peppered instead of panda corys though) and they all get on well. The tank size is probably at the lower limit for a DG but they don't generally dart around the place and often find a particular area in your tank around which they tend to spend a lot of their time so it should be happy. The profiles section also recommends that the tank should be mature before introducing one.

Thanks dbaggie.

The tank has been up and running for about a year. It was my first tank, before I got Multiple Tank Syndrome. It's just had a Siamese fighter in it for the last 6 months, but I have moved him to a 34 litre tank that I got from ebay. (Tank, 5 ornaments, 2 pumps and a couple of treatments for 99p. Not bad eh?  )

I just though a Dwarf Gourami would make a nice show piece to go with the three shoals.  :)

The cories, barbs and tetras put you at 84% stocked, assuming you have an internal filter. A dwarf gourami would take you to 94% which is getting pretty close to the limit. A honey gourami would take up slightly less stocking space than a dwarf. (Yes I know, I am very biased about honeys  ;D )

Hi Sue.

Only problem I can see there is that the CC recommends a minimum of two Honey Gouramis. I've also not seen them for sale, where as my LFS always have Dwarf Gouramis.

I do have an internal filter, but it's a Fluval U2 which can cope with tanks up to 110 litres, so it's very nearly oversized.

Thanks,
Ian.

That is a point. I have had lone honeys at various times and they do better with company.
