I remember seeing a post from Resa a while back about the link to one of the LFS shops I go to that had some interesting cories in, but because of the trouble I was having with the site I forgot all about it and where the post was...!

So thought I'd post it here:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/208502612516523/

I also mention Sue as there's a few interesting Betta's they're selling at the minute and thought you'd like to see the pics! Some of the photos are just from the internet but a lot of them are from the tanks and fish in the shop

Oh that's a shame I didn't realise you had to be on Facebook to see the groups. The shop is called The Aquatic Store. The Bettas they've got in atm are Crowntails and 'Dumbo Ear' ones

Hi Jesnon,

Thanks for the link, but unfortunately, I don't 'do' facebook either.  Perhaps I'll be able to find the piccies on another site.  I'd like to see them.

Ahh how annoying! I think Facebook is usually where they post all of their stock updates, will try and find the posts in question about the cories anyway.

Unfortunately no sign of Shrimpy 6 still :-(

Right so I managed to find the post about cories, at the time they had in:

corydoras sterbi Wild

orange venezuelan corydoras..

corydoras bronze

peppered corydoras

albino corys

Seeing all the fish on the group when it gets updated every day is really making me want a new tank! But I'm so conflicted... I'd love to get a marine tank with two clowns like we were originally planning all that time ago, but I just don't know if I can get my head around it! I don't know if my partner would be too happy with a normal tank... though I think he would be if we could get more 'interesting' (e.g. BIGGER!) fish!

I think they're just stock photos from the internet... but they're so lovely aren't they!? I can see them in a nice shiny new tank.... I showed my partner in a 'hey look, these are cute right?' and he just nodded and said they looked nice. Hmph, more convincing needed!

He liked penguin tetras when we were first looking at tanks, and he liked the opaline gourami in the first pic.... perhaps if I build up a potential fish list he'll be convinced ha! Anyone got any suggestions for my water that may convince him!? (Ph 8.2, water very hard)

Hi Jesnon,

They are beautiful fish! The cory looks like Corydora Adolfoi. I saw some of them at my LFS when I got my pandas.
The gourami is lovely, I haven't seen any of those.
My colisa is stunning..a real electric blue which doesn't come across in my pics. He is fine in my tank and I have really hard water too.

Good luck with the other half ;)

With your water you could keep Rift Lake cichlids and central American cichlids.
I don't know much about Rift Lake cichlids - my only knowledge is that they need very hard alkaline water, they are usually kept overcrowded to prevent any of them forming a territory, you have to stick to fish from one lake only, and they almost rival marine fish for colour.
Central American cichlids are usually quite big, tankmates should be chosen carefully so they don't get eaten, and these fish can be regarded as 'wet pets' as they do interact with their owner.

The reason I don't know much about them is that I have softish water and my tanks aren't big enough so I've never researched them.

Hehe sorry Resa! How's the tank planning / purchasing going?

I'm actually seriously considering another tank now... but I think my partner might notice eh?  ;D

They look amazing though! I think my Ph might be too high for them, though if my LFS has them and keeps them in Bristol water then perhaps not? If my little tank is big enough for them I could get a bigger tank for my endlers and add some more fish... but er... it's not like I've been thinking about it or anything?  ;)

Hi Jesnon,

Tank planning going fairly well, I nearly rushed out to get my new one the other week, but stopped for more research. The last thing I want is to get one, then find a better one...mind you, I'll probably end up getting the first one I saw, that's usually the way :-\
Rainbowfish were on my first ever, original fish list, but not these ones. The ones I liked were/are on the fish profiler, as dwarf rainbowfish. I also quite fancied the threadfin rainbows. The good news, having just had a quick peek at some info on them, is that they all get along so you can have a mix of varieties. I still have to find how many of each sort I would need to get. I think 3 females to 1 male...still researching :) Like you, I'm also not sure if my water would be ok for them.
I also have a vague recollection of reading here this week from someone, (maybe Natalia?) about some little fish that were prone to problems and that she would only get if they were wild caught...they might have been rainbows...or I could have just made that up...I'll have to have a check. ???

You absolutely MUST get another tank! It's a girls right to have lots of new shoes and lippy.....and fish tanks ;D ;D

I had some Pseudomugil gertrudae once. The males were fine, it was the females I had problems with. They were OK for a while, laid eggs and such; then one by one they started rolling over and died shortly afterwards.

I read on fishbase that they need pH 6.0 to 6.0 (think that last is a misprint?) and hardness 5 to 12, so I assumed my pH was too high at 7.4 But seriously fish reckons pH 4.5 to 7.5 and hardness 90 to 215ppm (5 to 12 german deg) which fits with my water. So I have no idea why my females died - unless it was the problems that Natalia (?) mentioned.

Glad tank planning is going OK, it's always tricky with these things since they're such an investment. I wish I'd actually researched more into tanks before picking my Edge - though I do love it and it goes nicely with everything else in my flat, a bigger tank would have given me a lot more room to play with! And inevitably it's easy to go back to where you started too! I do that all the time when shopping for shoes  :P

You absolutely MUST get another tank! It's a girls right to have lots of new shoes and lippy.....and fish tanks ;D ;D

Definitely! I'm working on it, not had much luck so far though :P It would be sensible to wait until I move anyway to get a new tank I suppose though moving is on hold for the time being!

And Sue hmm sorry to hear you didn't have much luck with these guys. The guy at the shop says they keep them is 7.2 so I really don't know, my water probably isn't compatible with these little guys!

When I first started teaching (~25 years ago.... eeek!!) the Biology teacher had one in his lab. They don't actually do much except sit there and look strange with their external gills.

The juvenile form of the salamander, if I remember correctly. It never matures due to lack of iodine in the water.
