Title: Hong Kong's "goldfish street"
Post by: Matt on September 08, 2018, 07:29:16 AM
We recently had a stop off in Hong Kong so of course I went to take a look at the infamous "goldfish street". I'm sure we are going to have some very mixed views on this but here goes...

Of course I also spied some pre made aquascapes for sale (because it's me!)... so on a more positive note here's some photos of that too!

Awesome to have had a stop off in Hong Kong, and get the opportunity to have a look around.

I'm not sure that people will have mixed views on the "goldfish street" pic. I think people here are more likely to have very firm views about that. I'm going to gloss over it rather than make any comment regarding fish welfare.

The pre-made aguascapes look quite good though.  :)

Me too! All I will say is that I found myself really wanting to know how the fish are kept overnight when not on display like this.

I would guess that they stay like that - surely it would take too long to take all those bags down every evening, release the fish into suitable storage conditions, then catch & bag them all the next morning and put them back on display.
Try not to think about it too much.

People from other cultures see things like fish very differently from us  :(

I'm just glad they no longer have these at fairgrounds in this country.

You've "hit the nail on the head".

Sadly, they do seem to have similar to this at some fairs, judging by comments on fish forums most summers about people winning goldfish as prizes and then seeking advice on how to look after them.  >:(
