Slightly expanding on Apache ' Name The Endler post, I started to wonder what other names you had for your fish and the reasons behind the names.

My MTS are all called Kevin, as the snails habits and characteristics remind me of an old work colleague. A bit mean I know but it's true, both hide a lot, constantly think about food, slow moving and only have a one track my mind when it comes to the females of our society.

My Kribs are named after the main characters in Princess Diaries, Prince Nicholas and Princess Mia. Although Princess Mia has been played by a few fishy actresses. My daughter named them as it was her favourite film at the time.

I look forward to hearing the names and the origins of your fishy friends. :)

My female Apisto is called The Duchess because she's a right madam when she wants to be, the male is now The Duke, for obvious reasons. She's the boss.

The dark coloured Stiphodon is called Manny, I don't know why, my daughter named him.

None of the other fish have names. :)

My one remaining guppy is called Bayleaf, after the gardener in 'The Herbs'. Parsley, Dill, Sage et al have all turned up their fishy toes. My platies, before they went to sing in the choir celestial, were named after foods. So there was Crumble, Rhubarb, Custard, Fudge, Biscuit etc etc.

I had a betta called Frank, just because I liked the name.

Practically all of my fish live in shoals and look identical so I can't tell one from the other, in fact most of them move around so constantly that I can never even count them, let alone name them. The only exceptions are the two rather ugly albino/orange bristlenose plecs which I inherited with a second hand tank and are called Mr and Mrs Spaghetti Head, obvious if you see them (well, him at least). The Lake Kutubu rainbow I also inherited is called Big Blue, again if you saw him/her you'd know why, about twice the size of any of my other fish.

:)

When I first set up my tank I was obsessed arty counting the fish, I wanted to be sure they were all healthy.

I soon realised it's pretty much impossible to count some species of fish. :rotfl:

I've homed a shoal of twelve Cardinals and a shoal of twelve CPDs, but have no idea if any of them might have died as they're never still enough to count them.

The various goldfish which I had over the years all had names - in most cases, it was just the name that came off my tongue at or shortly after the time I adopted the fish. I had planned not to name the tropicals, to avoid getting too attached to them, but most of them have ended up being named, usually a descriptive name describing them or their behaviour, although some have been named after people whose behaviour they resemble.

One of my female platies is Mummy fish and the male is Daddy fish. They have been separated since the baby incident. The other female platy is Booboo. Nothing else has a name. I feel as if I should name the axolotls, but I might take some time with that.

Colin; naming yours after The Herbs is wonderful and about to send me on a huge nostalgia trip down memory lane.
Skittler; I see what you did there  :)
Sue; extremely original, I do like it. I had a Comet goldfish called Fish when I was younger, so I do hold a soft spot for the originality  :)

My first fish and subsequent fish were endlers and I decided to name them all after characters from Red Dwarf - they were quite easy to distinguish because I had lots of different types. Unfortunately when all the main characters died I started to run out of names! My current lone fish doesn't have a name, I feel like since he's the only survivor of my killis he should but I don't know if I'd be able to tell them apart once I add more fish!
