My son's friend pre-ordered some endlers from me so I put a male in with the females and today the first babies arrived. I've been quite surprised how many of them actually died soon after birth. I think she'd already had a few in the main tank before I spotted some new arrivals in the tank and popped her into the fish hatchery thingy, I've now got 11 live baby endlers, including two I rescued from the tank and 4 dead ones.
I also found this absolutely teeny fishlet about 1/16 the size of the other baby endlers, I'm not even sure it's an endler and it's so small it could swim out I'm sure if it wanted too. I hope it stays so I can see what it is.
I'm not too sure I like the Marina Floating 2 in 1 fish hatchery, I'm fairly certain fry could get caught in the bars. It has a removable grid that sits about an inch above the base. The female sits in top and the fry drop through the grid to the space below. I'm wondering if the fatalities occurred during this process. Could anyone recommend a better one?

I can tell what I used when I had pure endlers about 10 years ago (yes they were pure, I got them from a registered breeder!).
I used a home made 'trap' inside a 25 litre tank. I made the trap from plastic craft canvas. The trap was slightly smaller than the tank; it gave the mother plenty room and the babies fell through the holes. It was large enough for me to put some silk plants in with the mother. The white things round the top are strips of polystyrene to make it float.
I do realise that not everyone has a spare tank to do this, but if you have, it works well.
The teeny fry - what other fish are in the same tank, or even in the same tank as a plant you might have moved? There is always the possibility of an egg on something being transferred from another tank.

I put some new plants in there a couple of weeks ago, so maybe there was an egg on it. I cant keep the blasted thing contained in the fry box and I've got nowhere else to put it atm, if it's still alive tomorrow I'll have a rethink and can maybe set up some sort of netting container for it. It's absolutely tiny, you can imagine the size if it's about a 1/16 of the endlers width.
