Hello - my son is an enthusiast and I wanted to buy him a book - has anyone found a good one lately?  Thanks.

Hi Sharon,
I was looking at getting a decent book to refer to when I started out on this hobby, but it was pointed out to me that ideas about fish welfare and techniques were changing all the time, and that I might be better off sticking to a forum, for different ideas and solutions to any problems....chances are, that whatever problem your son might (hopefully not) encounter, someone has already had experience of the same thing.
I have also found it a great source of knowledge, support and suggestions. It helps knowing that many solutions to all sorts of answers are just a click away.
So, in short, what I'm saying is, unless your son has a particular love of books and reading....and he's old enough and you're happy for him to be involved with a forum, then I would suggest he did that......you could always treat him to something new for his tank ;)

That's a fib, Sharon...Colin is lovely :D but it's true.... there is an unhealthy level of interest in fish poo in all its colours and forms ;D We could perhaps, use the services of a therapist on this site ;D ;D ;D

I was silly enough to go buy a book, it was pointless, just made everything even more confusing.  To make it worse neither of my fish were listed in the book, the pictures of fish were all of the more common ones you find everywhere, and the book cost £14!

Now, since I haven't had time today, I'm off to see what my fish are up to.  I don't think they are pooing, too busy carrying gravel out of the boat for that.   ;D
