Hi Folks,

Just in case Think Fish forum users have not seen the following link, I find it useful when considering adding leaves (including Catappa) to an aquarium:

Happy reading!

Yes, that's a good article - great for those who can access the countryside and collect their own leaves. I have to buy catappa leaves.

I find the leaves are great for putting on the substrate of the aquarium as my sand is quite light-coloured and I think the fish appreciate the darker, almost shaded, effect this gives. I also see the fish pecking from time to time at the leaves, perhaps eating micro-organisms from it. The nerite snails in particular like crawling over it and hiding under it. Generally, I find they last a fortnight or so before disintegrating, but some nano-sized leaves tend to last at least twice as long.

Leaves do grow lots of micro-organisms on them which is why they are very useful to have in fry tanks - a ready food source for those tiny egg-layer fry.
