Title: Water storage
Post by: Wil7985 on November 11, 2016, 04:48:34 AM
Hi, bit of a dumb question but I have got a couple of 25litre food grade containers, how long could I keep water in them before it goes stale, would a week be ok?.

A week is no problem at all. I dont think water goes off, it will start to grow various algae if its left in daylight and when they die off it will get stinky but that takes a good while  I put a small air stone and heater in mine so its at tank temperature ready for a change

That's what I was thinking of doing as I have a spare heater. Second question if I let the water sit for a week would I still need to use tap-safe ?.

Tap safe would still be advisable because whilst chlorine will has odd in this time, chloramine is also present in many water sources and this does not gas off. Further to this, tap safe also helps neutralise thing beyond just chlorine and chloramine such as heavy metals.
