Adjusting feeding/lighting times

At present, my tank light comes on from 7-9 in the morning and then from 4:30-9:30 in the evening, giving 7 hours of light per day. The tank is in a room that is well-lit when the sun is out, but not directly facing any windows.

I feed the tank at about 7:30 in the morning.

As a result of some changes to my work pattern, I now need to get up and go out earlier than I currently do, and I think I need to adjust my lighting hours and feeding pattern with it. I'm not entirely sold on having the light on in the morning as it is, but it's a way to ensure the fish are awake in time to be fed when I leave the house, but then it goes dark and in the English winter, there's not a whole lot of light during the day.

I think my ideal solution would be to not have the light on at all in the morning and adjust my evening lighting, running from 3-10, perhaps, and then I can feed once a day in the evening when I come home from work.

Firstly, are the are any problems with this proposal?

Secondly, having read about how fish need routine and the "jet lag" they suffer from lighting periods changing, how best do I go about changing the lighting hours? Can I just change the timer and go straight into it? Same for feeding, do I just stop feeding in the morning and start feeding at night instead?

My tank lights come on at 11.30 am and go off at 7.30 pm. I feed my fish after our lunch. Your suggestion is similar to mine, just pushed back a few hours.

The way I would do it is to reduce the first on by half an hour, while at the same time increase the second on by half an hour at the end. Your second off time will now be 10.00 pm. Wait 4 or 5 days at this timing.
Then remove another 30 mins from the first on, and bring the second on forwards by 30 mins. Wait 4 or 5 days and repeat till you reach your proposed new time settings.

Feeding is trickier, I would just move that straight over to when you get home.
