HI all, Is anyone keeping or has kept a Panchax with live bearers, specifically platys? do they take fry effectively?

There are several species called panchax (http://www.seriouslyfish.com/species/search/panchax). Do you have a specific one in mind? Some of the smaller ones would be OK in a 65cm long tank, but it would be a bit too small for the larger species.

The question is, would they eat platy fry? Given that their mouths tend to be upward facing, they are surface feeders. But then so are platies, strictly speaking. If you could find a shop with one of the smaller species, you could give it a try, but bear in mind that males can be nasty towards one another so don't get more than one male.

thank you, found a nice little panchax but he was rubbish at hunting platy fry. he spotted them did the "pounce" preparation then missed by inches every time, platies just too fast. he's quite happy in my larger tank now though.  So its back to shrimp research for me i guess. :)    but i think this is half the joy of keeping, figuring out what happens if.
