Title: Mixing Apistogramma / rams
Post by: glitch74 on November 03, 2018, 05:06:44 PM
I have a 55g tank, I have a male apistogramma borelli, (my female was recently killed by a troublesome Molly which has now been removed), if I added a male ram or a male apistogramma of a different species would they still become territorial given the lack of females?

Yes. Your current apisto will regard the whole floor of the tank as his. He will see any other male as an intruder. The other problem is that A.Borelli needs cooler water than rams, though the same temp as Bolivian rams - but a male Bolivian ram would have serious problems sharing the tank with another cichlid.

You could get another female - or 3. A 555 gallon tank should have enough fllor space for several female territories, and A. borelli is a harem breeder.

Mollies and apistos are not good tank mates because they need such different water.
