Paradise fish and cories

Over the weekend I noticed that one of the aquarium shops I visit had some paradise fish(there's 4 within 2-5 min walk of each other which makes for a fun afternoons window shopping). I came home and looked them up and they seem to be a reasonable community fish. The males get territorial of each other but I was thinking of just getting one so that shouldnt be an issue. However when I did a stocking level check using the thingumybob here it flagged up a warning that paradise fish are too big to keep with my cories, which is weird because the celebes rainbows are actually bigger, the males are anyway.

Any ideas why that warning comes up?

I think the 'too big' thing just means that larger fish can intimidate smaller fish just by being bigger. I don't think they will eat cories.

However, paradise fish are not really good community fish as they need cooler conditions than most tropical fish - 10 to 22oC. If the cories you mean are habrosus, they need 20 to 26C. There is a tiny amount of overlap but it is at the end of both scales so not ideal (fish are happiest in the middle)

Male paradise fish are well known to be nasty. Comparable with three-spot gouramis. So 1 male and 2 or 3 females in a tank with lots of decor for the females to hide in.

Good point Sue, ta. None of our tanks go that low, even unheated tanks still reach 22, ah well.
