Hi sgill

Are you looking for another shoal of fish or a bigger centrepiece fish?
And do you have soft, hard or middling water?

In 300 litres, you could get more rainbows and otos and still have room for lots more  :)

In addition to Sue's questions, how wide is your tank? If you answer these we can give you some opinions on what would work...

There are two types of fishkeepers, those who prefer to keep large shoals of a small number of species, and those who prefer many species and the minimum recommended numbers of each. What way do you lean?

hi the water in this part of the uk about average but def not soft  have not got any real thoughts on shoal or specimen fish yet as long as not aggressive to what i already have. the tank is only 15 inches wide but will be upgraded by the end of the year to 18 wide inches or 10 x 2 feet depends if it comes indoors or stays in the barn but it will still be same sort of set up

Just so we understand each other, you have a 300 litre tank... I think you might be talking about depth when you say only 15 inches...? When talking about tanks the width is the same as length ie the longest horizontal measurement, usually along the front panel of glass... Depth is distance from the front to the back and height is obviously the height from top to bottom...

If your longest panel of glass is 15 inches it would need to be about a metre and a half tall to hold 300 litres!  :o :o

With a good water flow plus wave-maker then I think a big shoal of active fish that can swim in to the flow would look really good. Perhaps a shoal of the Zebra, Giant or Pearl Danios?

Tetras seem to come from more sluggish waters, but a group of the more active sort (Lemon, Rosy) always looks stunning.

I like Barbs, and SeriouslyFish has this to say about the Golden Barb: Filtration does not need to be particularly strong though it does seem to appreciate a degree of water movement and will also do well in a hill stream-type set-up. ...so that could be a good fish.

hi tank is 30 inches tall x 15 x 48    like the idea of the zebra danios was not sure if they can compete for food against the rainbows(they eat every thing small enough to swallow and evan steal the algae tabs and i feed them 3 times a day) may be the barbs would have a better chance

I have some zebra and leopard danios and I can guarantee that they can compete for food.
They are active with water flow and seem to enjoy swimming into any moving water.

Whenever I read a post like this I am torn between pleasant admiration and incandescent jealousy. My thoughts flick between "aww, good for you! Your fish must be so happy" - and "god damn my house! I've nowhere to put a tank that size!"

Anyway, hi  :fishy1:
