I have 9 harlies and have had them a couple years, so they'll be full size. They probably are about 4cm, but it's difficult to tell - mainly because I have a very lightly stocked 240l planted tank. They obviously like it as they are very red. Visitors describe them as my red fish, compared with my blue fish which are actually cardinal tetras.

When they've grown to full size, they should go well with the Congo tetras, in terms of size.

Hi Helen, ive got 12 harleys now, in with 9 Congos, and i love them, they are such brave fun loving little fish, and yes in the sunlight they shine a lilac and purple, but with tank lights on they look like they are on fire. Some of the slimmer ones (are they males?) are a bit paler, the black lamb chop is not very dark. Well if they reach 4cm i will be more than happy, they are tiny 1.5cm at mo i think.

I made a short video of my harleys but it's very disappointing. The water is crystal clear and the fish brilliantly coloured but the whole thing looks wishy-washy in the video

. My daughter is a photographer so I'll get her to try to get a better one

very clear. I think your Harleys are different to mine, yours look like the "Purple" ones, mine are the lambchop type, i was tempted to get purple but read they were smaller, judging by yours, not so $:-\$ Lovely tank WR

Aha, if yours are the lambchop ones they aren't harlequins. Harlequins are Trigonostigma heteromorpha and lambchops are Trigonostigma espei. The espeis are smaller than harlequins. Seriously Fish quotes harlies as growing to 35 - 45mm and espeis as 25 - 30mm.

Thanks AM but it really doesn't do it justice. The Cardinals for instance look white on the top instead of vivid blue and the faces of the Harley's and Rummy's look pink when they are actually scarlet

Sorry Sue, my mistake, mine are not "Lambchop" they are Trigonostigma heteromorpha, but are still more distinct than WildRovers which look like the purple ones right? i didn't realise the purple could get to 4cm, would purple mix in with mine, would they interbreed? Well WR i did vid on youtube of my Congo tetras but it did not do them any justice.

As long as you know which species they are

The purple and 'natural' coloured ones would mix together as they are the same species, the purple ones have just been selectively bred to get the colour. Yes, they would breed together but they and the congos and any future fish would eat any eggs before they had a chance to hatch. And if any eggs ended up in a place where the fish couldn't get at them, the fry would get eaten as soon as they poked their noses out. People who intend to breed fish usually use a separate tank for spawning and remove the parents as soon as the eggs are laid.

Hi there

I have a 10 year old harlequin in my tank but I think he may be an espei as only about 3-4 cm and looks quite slender in comparison to other rasboras I have seen.

I recently bought him 6 new friends who are definitely espei's and they're tiny in comparison so I understand your initial concern but they appear to be able to 'hold their own'

The shape of the black marking on the bigger fish shows that this is a true Harlequin, not T. espei.

The dark mark is much deeper in the Harlequin. Look at the pictures here :

Hello All,

It was me having the same problem. The page displays as a lot of squares, Chinese letters, and other stuff. I was told last night (in the pub) that my laptop has opened it in "Notepad". Goodness knows how or why? Previous to the problem, I had used the site without issue. I am on Windows 7. I have no problems with other websites. Perhaps someone out there knows the solution?

You can see the difference on this site, under Fish Profiles/ Rasbora. Espei are called "Slender Harlequin" here.

Re the Seriously Fish website, I haven't had any problem accessing that website from Google Chrome; however, I've just tried it from Internet Explorer to no avail. Some websites appear to be set up to be more accessible from some web browsers better than others eg some academic websites are really only accessible from Mozilla Firefox. Perhaps Seriously Fish has made changes to its website which don't affect those accessing it from Google Chrome but does from other routes.

Question for shivyDevon and Skittler - how are you accessing Seriously Fish, via google or straight to the website address - or clicking Richard's link? Another forum I'm a member of has been having trouble with google. Clicking on a link in google takes you to a router site but typing the website in the address bar gets there with no problem. It is thought their problem might be due to something in an ad.

I've tried to access it both ways - via the link and by searching through Google and clicking on the homepage link. This is on my laptop with windows 7 using Internet explorer. I can access it using my iPhone tho ... Strange
