hi i have 6 moscow blue guppys, 6 gold tuxedo plays and 5 neon tetras, apart from the tetras the others seem to enjoy having a suck of the algae on just one variety of plant that was overtaken by algae during the fishless cycle, just wondering whether this was normal for the fish to be cleaning up the algae, i was thinking about getting some algae eaters but the fish seem to be doing it all for me!!

Yep, Guppy's, Platy's and similar (e.g. Molly's) are greedy blighters and will munch all day on anything they can find! It's unlikely that they'll tackle all the algae though, especially the kind which needs 'rasping' off things like the tank glass - something like a Pleco or Otto's are more specialised algae eaters (but are still unlikely to do it all for you!).
