Title: Convict cichlid

Anybody know why my female convict is always hiding normally she spawns then hides for a while afterwards if eggs not viable but on last tank clean over a week ago went into hiding and has not come back out is it possible she's spawned out is cnot lay any more eggs as I've heard of this before ?  :)

Is the male pestering her? This is the most common reason for female cichlids to hide.

No not really he's pretty good around her by the way their housed in a 180 litre tank on there own :)

In that sized tank there shouldn't be any problems between them, plenty of space for them to get away from each other.


I'm afraid I haven't any more ideas, sorry  :-\

I've never kept cichlids but have just had a quick google, and, aside from Sue's suggestion, other possibilities might be her preparing the area for future spawning, some fry already being in there which she's protecting, or else a change of decor/arrangements/water chemistry which may have upset her and may take her a while to get used to. Might any of these be the case?

no shes not getting ready to spawn ie gravel shifting and theres no babys in the tank at present and ph etc is same as normal bit lost at the moment but thanks for ideas etc
