you would have to give us the full dimension of the tank (lengthxwidthxheight) before anyone could tell you about how to stock.....or even better the toltal volume of the tank in litres.

I don't really know about Malawis but i think you are better off stocking them a bit more heavilly than you would with most species to spread out their aggression.

One final thing...is this the same tank that you are thinking of putting a fighter in from your other post??

African Rift Lake cichlid tanks are usually overstocked; this prevents any particular fish being able to set up and defend a territory, which would end up in a lot of fighting if it happened.
I too have no experience with these fish as my tapwater is totally unsuitable so I'd have to add things to the water at every water change, something I'd prefer not to bother with. Is your tank water suitable or will you need to add Rift Lake buffer?

hi sorry my tank is 117 lts i have kept cichlids before but its a smaller tank this time its only 3ft where my last tank was 5ft i am thinking of using a rift lake buffer because the water is very hard where i am but before used a blue water conditioning powder before with no problems my fish were breeding constantly in last tank but this time i have gone too town on them i have a eheim internal pick up filter 2012 plus a protein skimer and 3 airlines in the tank with ocean rock and coral sand and blue aqua light bulb i think that should do but on my last tank i had two internal filters and a skimmer running  :-\ :)
