Bolivian ram pair selection?

Hi all,
Finally, I am soon going to be getting a pair of bolivian rams. I went to look at the shops stock and they all seem healthy. However, there were two (I think male and female) who had claimed a back corner of the tank and any other fish that got near the male would charge at. So, I would like a pair for the interaction between them, however if they are this aggressive to other fish would they cause issues in my tank? or will they be fine?

I currently have 8 CPD's, 4 minnows and 4 cory's plus some shrimp and snails.

Hi Barney,

I recently introduced a pair to my community tank and they just interact with each other. The only time they pay attention to any other of the fish is when they get too close, but they just give a little warning chase and then leave it.
I think that they're very peaceful, though i have heard that they'll defend their territory when spawning – mine aren't showing any signs of that yet though.

I had a pair of bolivians spawn in my tank several times. They were no problem to tank mates as they soon learned to keep away from the eggs. All except the loaches. I had 2 rams and 3 loaches. One ram can chase the first loach, the second ram can chase another loach, leaving the third loach free to sneak in and eat the eggs. The egg disappeared fairly quickly  :(

Pairs of ram are a bit stressed in shop tanks as they are usually sharing it with other rams. It's the other rams they really object to but any other species in with them gets treated the same.
