I've had a couple of plecos for a year or so. I was doing a major clean up last night and lifted a piece of wood to find 4 or 5 baby plecos clinging to it!! Now I'm aware of where babies come from (!) but I didn't actually think plecos would successfully breed in my 180 litre tank. I'm really wondering three things - is this unremarkable, are they likely to survive in a tank with nothing larger than Tiger Barbs in it, and what will I do with them if they do survive? I can't have 6 or 7 plecos in my tank!!

Will they survive? Yes. Plecs are armour plated which makes them very difficult to eat. They’ve survived this long, so they’ll stay under there during the day till they’re big enough to be out and about. They’d have to be fry and swallowable whole for most little fish to eat them (they may have eaten most of them...).
Is it unremarkable? Depends which species they are. There’s a lot of plecs, ranging from 2” to 3 feet long.
What to do with them? Advertise them locally, give them to a shop (they may reimburse you with a token amount...).

Congrats on the baby plecs! Another option for you might be to advertise on www.aquarist-classifieds.co.uk, where you can do so by county - more likely to go to a good home than if advertised on more 'generic' websites. If you want to post a photo of the adults here, we might be able to help you identify which species of plec they are which would be important before advertising them.

My bristlenose plecs have bred in the past, and I passed the little ones on to the fish store.
My pair continued to lay eggs on a monthly basis, so I had to separate them.
