Adding A New Filter

If I add new a filter to an already established tank will I experience another cycle? I'd like to replace my HOB filter, just wondering if there is a "safe" way to do it? Not sure if I could transfer filter media over? Would that depend on the type of filter I go for?

Thanks.

The best way is to transfer media over.
What exactly does your HOB have in it? And what filter are you swapping to?
