New betta

I collected my new betta from MA yesterday.
I liked him because he was very perky and looks a little strange.
He is settling in to his quarantine tank, and has just had his dinner.

Oooooh, I really like the look of him 8) - I seem to be partial to white-/pale-coloured ones and there's something about his eyes that appeal to me. Congrats!

Keep us posted on how he develops.

I've still got my plakat betta, but when I saw the new stock at MA a purchase was inevitable.
It was between this one and a solid white one, the pale colours make their eyes look huge. I went for this one as I hadn't seen a betta with fins like this before either.

He's lovely  :)

Just so you don't get a shock if it happens - he has some marble genes judging by his colouring, and bettas with marble genes can change colour as they mature.

I'd noticed his spotty rear end, and thanks for letting me know that his colour and markings could change as he matures. He's such a funny looking little fella that not much would surprise me with this one.

You've started something here Donna...  Wouldn't mind a Betta myself, although those upward turned mouths always makes 'em look a tad grumpy to me, lol...   :fishy1:   ;D

Yes, it does make them look a bit grumpy, it's the same with my hatchets. Though it's even more adorable when something with such a grumpy face acts all perky and excited (mainly at feeding time).  :)

@Lynne W I don't want to encourage bad behaviour, but....... ;D  :fishy1:

It's their behaviour that makes bettas so appealing. I have had my current betta one week, and it took him 2 days to realise what the little white tub with the blue lid means, so as soon as he sees it he comes dashing over for food. And there's the constant 'ooo, a human, is it food time yet?' and they come hopefully swimming over to see you.

I agree.
The dwarf puffers show similar behaviour, and yesterday I realised that the whole shoal of rainbow shiners in the river tank recognise the food containers, which made me chuckle.
This strange little betta seems very perky and seems to enjoy interaction, and I did consider getting one of those R2 fish school kits to see if he'd take to that, until I saw the priced. I might have a go with some home-made stuff for tricks at some point. My other has tank mates, so perhaps he has more to keep him occupied, but he certainly knows feeding time, and shows a very determined preference for bloodworms rather than betta pellets.  ::)

It's a sad day.  :(
Whilst checking the tanks this morning I found that Kimi has passed away during the night.
There were no marks on him, and I checked the water parameters, which were as expected.
After having both Seb and Kimi pass away, I don't think I'll be getting another betta.
 :'(

I'm sorry to hear that  :( Bettas have such personality that losing them is especially hard.

Aw, @Littlefish - how very sad, especially for this to happen without warning.  :'(  At least he had a happy life, albeit short, and hopefully won't have suffered at all. [Also hopefully it is of some minor consolation that the water quality hadn't gone unexpectedly awry, so there's nothing you could have done to prevent this, albeit this won't help with the shock factor.]
