Got my new fighter settled in nicely, but he seems to find the most uncomfortable places to rest lol

He's gorgeous  :)

They do find the silliest places to rest. I have hornwort floating in my betta's tank and he likes to sleep in the loops made by the stems. My previous one slept either on top of the internal filter (till I replaced it with a sponge filter) or on a heater sucker.
Just a word of caution - make sure the wood has no rough/sharp bits or he could tear his fins. They also like broad leaved plants to sleep on - real or silk, but not plastic as they have sharp bits.

I have made sure there's nothing sharp in there ( fingers crossed) and as you said on top of the filter is another favourite place.

He is a very handsome chap.
My betta also ends up in some very odd positions, including on the filter.  ::)
