I got the tip from Sue when I first started keeping fish and had bought some dwarf suckermouths for an immature tank. That and the suggestion of blanched courgette, it kept the otos hale and hearty  :)

f your thinking about the hillstreams, then you maybe in a bit of trouble. i had 2 in my dad's 190L and the big one wouldn't stop bulling the smaller one. then the both killed eachother (i think :'( ) and i found them dead on the bottom of the tank. this was a while back. good luck though, you are probably more expirienced and you are getting a special tank instead of a planted community. It was very amusing watching them eat catfishpellets off the sand. you saw the sand fly through their gills!

Sue and Fiona - spreading the word on growing algae on rocks, to the gratitude of many fish, including my two.  :)
I'm growing courgettes and cucumbers in the garden & grow house as well, so I hope the little fellas will appreciate some of them in a few months as well.

Apache - thanks for the heads up on that. I'm not hugely experienced as I only started keeping fish last October, but I've done quite a bit of research. After seeing the reticulated hillstream loaches (sewellia lineolata) I have been planning a hill stream tank for ages, but kept getting distracted by other things. I have now reorganised the furniture and I hope that the tank will be delivered within the next few weeks, then I can start building the stream manifold to get the right water flow. Colin provided some links to articles on the loaches, and I've found several others, but any advice or information is always helpful. Thanks.

Wow - your signature with all those tanks and inhabitants, and another tank in the offing, is quite admirable! :fishy1:

I think it's probably more a case of not having anyone to tell me "no".  ;D

...and having the space. If I were to fit all those tanks into my flat, I'd have to get rid of all the shelves and bookcases, the wardrobe, the bed, and have the bath double up as a bed, etc! :)

Ok, yes, I do have quite a lot of room, but I have got rid of quite a few bookcases, and some tanks are kind of stacked e.g., puffer tank on top of the cabinet/stand, with the tiger barbs/blue-eyed ancistrus tank in the cabinet (after removing the doors). The temperate tanks are on a tall, reinforced bookcase, and the betta/panda tank is on a half height bookcase behind the hatchet/tetra tank.
I only just have room for the rest of the furniture.
I'm fairly certain that, if I lived with someone, I wouldn't get away with this sort of crowded set up in the living room.  ;D

Some new arrivals - 2 more dwarf puffers.
I collected this pair last week from another keeper who needed to re-home them. They are far too small to go into the current puffer tank, so they have been given a 70L of their own until they are big enough.

As fcmf had kindly put me in contact with the person who wanted to re-home the puffers, and as part of the tank twinning project, I offered fcmf the opportunity to name the new arrivals.
I know the pictures don't really do them justice, but it does introduce (fanfare).....Humbug and Sherbon.
These two seem to have settled into their tank and have made short work of the frozen blood worms. Today I'm going to try them with the live blood worms.  :)

@Littlefish just so you know I added 3 small puffers to my son's tank last week as I wanted to increase the numbers of C. Imitator and the other fish have been fine with them. I've been watching them carefully because I had read an article where the guy was unsuccessful introducing more puffers to his existing community, I haven't had any issues though and the new ones are at least a quarter of the size of the others

@Littlefish I think maybe http://www.seriouslyfish.com/species/akysis-vespa/ would be ideal for your hillstream tank

Just a quick update on Harry, after his tail-nipped-by-tetras episode and moving to his own tank.
He seems quite happy and is munching on all the wood and algae stones he can get hold of. He's also had a bit of a growth spurt and his markings are becoming more distinct. I think he may realise that he is safer on his own as he is becoming quite active, even when the light is on, and is often seen at the front.
 :)

Aw - what a cutie. It does indeed sound as though a move to his own tank has been a positive one.  :)
