I've realised I have a photos of a few of my bettas, though not all. Since I started with a tank for my bettas, I have had a few.
Red combtail (fins not as finely divided as a crowntail)
Blue/red/white tricolour butterfly superdelta - see pic
Dark blue HMPK (half moon plakat) white and red on tail
Peach HMPK - see pic
White/red/grey tricolour butterfly superdelta dragon - see pic
Bright blue dragon HMPK, the one that had lymphocyctis - see pic
Definitions
Crowntail - betta with fins divided between the rays
Butterfly - betta with a body of one colour and fins of another. A tricolour has a third colour on the fin edges
Superdelta - the edges of the tail are between 120 and 180o apart
Half moon - the edges of the tail are 180o apart
Plakat - a short finned betta
Dragon - a betta with thickened scales making them look metallic

You can see now what I meant by 'different' bettas in my cycling thread. I was lucky enough to find the two butterflies in a local-ish shop. The chap who managed the shop has moved to another one and last time I was in the bettas just weren't the same. He moved to another shop last autumn so I'll have to go and see if there are any nice bettas in his newer shop.

A couple of photos of my new betta, the pale blue delta tail marble.
Marble means two colours on the body and fins in a random blotchy pattern. This is subject to change in both design and colour as the fish ages. Delta tail means a tail that has straight sides, as opposed to curved, and the edges are between 90 and 120o apart when flaring.
His tail is slightly split at the edge. I suspect these were caused when I bought him. This branch of Maidenhead Aquatics has its bettas in a rack system. Each betta is in its own small tank, and water continuously trickles in from pipes above the tanks. There is a hole in each one about an inch from the top at the back, and the water overflows though the hole and down the back of the rack. In front of the rack is a white plastic worktop.
The chap rolled down the sides of the bag and decanted the contents of the tank, water and fish, into the bag. Only this betta didn't like that idea and jumped, ending up on the worktop. The chap carefully scooped him into the bag ( ??? ) and he seemed no worse for it, except for the splits which appeared the following day. I'm doing daily water changes and the splits do seem to be healing slowly.
The tank is a 25 litre rectangular tank, w 45cm; d 25cm; h 26cm. It is on a worktop in the kitchen and the long side runs front to back, so what the photo shows is the view through the shorter side.

Perhaps i'm weird but i always think bettas look like they belong on the set of a zombie film... tank of the living dead.

I know a lot of people don't like bettas or the fact that have been very intensively bred to get the large fins and bright colours. What is it about them you don't like WW?
Personally speaking, I don't have a problem with fins and colours, it's messing with body shape I'm not happy about - fish like balloon rams and mollies. And hybridising fish where the end product is deformed (eg parrot fish with their jaws).
I have toyed with the idea of one of the other betta species but I'd need another tank just for them, and I know what my husband would say to that :( Maybe when the pygmy cories and ember tetras in the 50 litre have lived out their lives..........

I quite like them Sue, it's just i look at their scales and the head colours and they just always look like zombies from B Movies imo...
I am fully in agreement with you about fish that have had physical deformities bred into them, in particular the parrot fish. I also find dyed fish repulsive and personally would not buy anything from a shop that stocked dyed fish.

I know this is an old thread but I wanted to add some photos of my more recent bettas so they were all together.
The betta in post 5 - the blue and white marble pattern - turned solid blue. He was from my nearest Maidenhead Aquatics (their Stockton branch) and he lived with me for 23 months.
The next fish (photo below) was a peach coloured half moon betta, which came from the same MA. I had him for 29 1/2 months. Not the best angle for him but it shows off his colour and tail.
Then the 'neurotic' peach and blue betta, also from the same MA, which I had for 7 months. He was never 'normal' He did not swim like every other betta I've ever had but dashed around the tank and twitched if he touched any decor. He was also a tail biter. Looking at the photo, which I took the day after I bought him, it is now obvious he had been biting his tail for some time.
Finally the betta I bought 2 days ago, yet again from the same MA.
These photos show well the kind of bettas that some branches of MA stock.

I just cznt get my head round having only one fish in a tank. But i have a large tank with a lot of smaller shoaling fish, so it'd be a big change for me.
Perhaps, after it's been empry for a while, I'll want to repurpose my hospital tank! ;)

I agree - they are lovely. I do miss the interaction of goldfish (although the tropicals are learning and much more interactive than they used to be) and I believe from folk on here that bettas are also interactive.

I had you "sussed" earlier that such plans were in the offing, so much so that I got caught looking at the microwave with a mischievous grin on my face as though I were planning something similar.

(It's even white so will look less obtrusive with all the white kitchen units!) ;)

Introducing the betta I got about 3 weeks ago. He won't keep still, this is the least blurry photo I've managed to take.
Unlike most people I don't give my betta's names. When I buy one he's called new betta for a few days, then he becomes just betta.

Maybe some day you'll "graduate" to calling him even something as straightforward as Pink Betta. :D

PS. Are all your bettas' photos in this thread, @Sue? I know there were a few betta fatalities in the past couple of years but I'm now getting yours and Littlefish's confused, and trawling through Thinkfish Daily News to remind myself is a bit difficult as it's now got so many pages!
