I spotted this photo opportunity shortly after I'd fed the tank. I think some of the food must have fallen on this piece of bogwood.
I'd had problems keeping shrimp alive in this tank last year, but with some advice form Natalia I managed to save some newly hatched shrimp and they've multiplied.

And a pygmy cory in the background.

Hi Andy, not quite over run just yet, but there are more and more of them all the time.
The problem I had was they kept dying. I bought some from three different shops, and every one of them died trying to moult. I would find them dead with a white line across the back. So I posted on here and Natalia said that there is a shrimp specific bacterium and that there could well be some in my tank. The water parameters were fine (no ammonia or nitrite and enough calcium). On her advice I bought some Beta G and that helped. I moved the very last shrimp, a berried female, to my quarantine tank where she died trying to moult just after the eggs hatched, and about 10 of the newly hatched babies survived. And had babies of their own. But all these shrimp were closely related and I needed to extend my gene pool, so I swapped a dozen youngsters with someone who also wanted to extend their gene pool.
If I do get to the point where there is no room in the tank for anything but shrimp, I'll advertise some for sale.

Excellent Sue,
calcium is important for the shed, but also I believe Iodine is also important. Im more of a salty person myself, but think the same principle applies. So you may want to investigate iodine supplements if your shrimp struggle.

Also, if your starting to get over stocked, you may want to try and arrange a credit swap deal with a local LFS?

Well done anyway, keep up the good work.

Andy
