Wow Puffin!!! Your tank looks amazing!!!!  Beautiful photos!!!

My new fish are still settling so I've left them alone regarding photos but I did have to do a short video last night of them throwing a pleco tablet around!!!!  (I'll post it at some point but it was dark because the tank lights were off so not sure how good it is).

I gave the corys a PT this morning as well but unfortunately Goldie my Platy is rather partial to them. When I couldn't find him a bit later on I had a good search and there he was in the bottom of the barrel ornament with a stomach the size of a marble!!!!!!  He's looking thinner now but he was very reluctant to swim!!!!  :rotfl:

Some fish can be terrible pigs  ;D And platies do like their veggies.

Do make sure you give the cories some non-veggie, non-algae food as well as they prefer a meaty food.

My Corys love a bit of bloodworm (frozen or live) - it usually sinks straight to the bottom as well, often giving the Corys first dibs  :)

Hi,

Let me introduce Stanley!!!

As you can see i have got me a betta!!!!

He is gorgeous and was really showing off in the shop, hence why i chose him. I stood and talked to all the bettas for ages and he was the most lively and interactive. I just adore him.

He was a bit withdrawn yesterday (i got him on thursday) but today is swimming around happily and coming to see whats going on!!

I also got some minnows to keep him company and they seem to be ignoring each other, which is better than the alternative!!!

My only worry is he Stanley hasn't eaten yet - at least not that i've witnessed. I've tried very tiny bits of the following and he has a couple of snails to clean up after him!!

Blood worm
Daphnia
Mosquito larvae
Flake
Crushed snail
Pellets

My last hope will be peas!!!!!

Does anyone else have any ideas???

He is gorgeous  :)) That's how I choose my bettas - the one that seems to respond best.

Not eating in very common in newly purchased bettas. Especially if the shop has been feeding something different as it can take them a while to realise that what you are putting in the tank is actually food. All you can do is keep adding his staple (which should be betta specific pellets rather than flake which are known to cause problems for bettas), a bit at a time removing the uneaten if his tank mates don't get there first until one day he realises they are food. If he is small (young) and the pellets are large, crush them a bit until he grows enough to manage a whole one. Don't give him too much live food (or frozen live) until he eats the pellets or he'll just turn his nose up and demand the live food. They are a bit like children - if they think they can persuade you to feed them burgers all the time they'll refuse to eat anything else till you give in and get them another burger. Live food for bettas is like that. They taste best of all but not very good for them every meal.

Can I just check what the tank temp is? Bettas can be sluggish and not eat if it's too cold. They need between 25 and 30 dec C.

Hi Sue,

Initially i had the tank at 28 deg C but I lowered it to 26 which is what it is currently.  He seems to rush towards the food but when he gets there he loses interest?!  I guess he'll eat when he's hungry!!

Hello folks!!

I've read the warning that tells me it's been at least 120 days since this post had a posting and I AM sure I want to reply.

My tank has changed so much since I started! I'd totally forgot what my platys looked like. Bless them!

Here is my tank now. I have got some neon tetras and they have made such a difference to the look of the tank! I've also bought some more plants, which I hope will survive. The chap in the shop said ( yes, I know!) red leaved plants need high light and added carbon dioxide. I didnt let him sell me anything I didnt want as I wanted to check first.

What do the plant experts among you think?

Looks lovely.

[Incidentally, I also have that bridge/tunnel - had bought it ages ago and put it in the tank a couple of weeks ago and the tetras love chasing one another through it while the cories enjoy sleeping under it.]
