Trickle Filter

You really don't need the carbon, so take that out and save it. It may come in useful later if you need to remove medication from the water.

I use (in water flow order) a thin piece of fine filter floss, a very large piece of coarse filter spong, two bags of ceramic noodles.

I change the floss at every water change, but I bought a huge piece and cut out the pieces I need. It works out at about £10 a year and keeps the water squeeky clean and stops the coarse sponge from blocking - so that's worth it, I think. The coarse sponge and the noodles house the good bacteria.
