Title: Last stage of cycle
Post by: Jwc on September 25, 2014, 06:29:58 PM
Hi all I'm onto the last stage of the cycle now and just added my does of ammonia and will test tomorrow to see if it has cycled or not. Just to check if it hasn't I don't add more ammonia tomorrow do I? I add it when the ammonia and nitrite levels have gone to 0 then add it, is that correct?

If the readings are both zero tomorrow, the cycle has finished. If you can't go fish shopping straight away keep adding the 1ppm dose every two or three days. As soon as you can go fish shopping, do a big water change (90%-ish). The same morning or the day before the shopping trip is the time to do it.

If one or both are not zero tomorrow, it depends on what the readings are.
If ammonia is below 0.2 and nitrite is below 1.0, repeat steps 10 to 12. That is, add 3ppm and test after 24 hours.
If the nitrite reading is above 1.0, add a 1ppm dose and test again in 2 days (as per step 9)

Thanks once again use, I thinkingn it possibly won't be finished tomorrow as so far it's gone perfect and quicker than I thought. I don't think I've read anyone do it in 2 weeks!
