Home made filter

Our little 21 litre Aquanano came with a 400l hour filter. It is very powerful, even though I have it on the lowest setting.
I am toying with the idea of making a "sprinkler" bar to try and reduce the flow but one of the problems with these particular tanks is the water level, which has to be high to cover the pump intake and the outlet.
One thing my little plastic fish have proved is that my proposed Endlers will be pulled towards the outlet and although they will not go through due to the sponge I have behind it, they may find it difficult to get away.

In readiness for any future health problems I made a filter to go in my tiny  hospital tank and I'm keeping this filter in the main tank so that it too is cycled for immediate use when required.

It is a small plastic pot, with well fitting layers of Fluvel sponge and some ceramic noodles and passing through the centre is my airline. It looks OK, appears to work OK, the air anyway comes out of the small holes I made at the top. I also have one made from a baby's bottle, same principle and that too is bubbling away.

(Can't you just tell I have too much time on my hands at the moment?)

Would this be sufficient to filter the tank for 8-10 Endlers or should I stick with the powerful one that came with the tank?

I saw those on Ebay AM and Amazon is MUCH cheaper!!

I wouldn't be able to put one of those in either of my tanks though as they are a bit big.

That was one of the reason I made some.  I wanted to keep one in the main tank but as space is at a premium it was a case of the smallest I could get away with and still be useful (That still has to be proved of course)
Since the quarantine tank is only 12 litres I thought a little sponge filter that was already cycled would be Ok for one or two fish.
We'll see.
