Title: Filter Media to Cycle New Tank
Post by: Kirstos on January 23, 2014, 04:19:43 PM
Does anyone know roughly how much filter media can be taken from an established tank to help seed a new tank without causing a mini cycle in the donor tank please? (Trying to speed up the cycling of my new 64 litre)

Thanks!

Up to one third, though a quarter is safer. Feed the donor tank lightly for a few days and keep an eye on the ammonia and nitrite levels. Swap some new media for the old to fill the space in the old filter.
