Dr Tims Ammonium Chloride Solution Gallon UK or US?

Hi,

Bit of a silly question, but I don't seem to be able to find a definitive answer anywhere.

I have a bottom of Dr Tims Ammonium Chloride Solution for my Fishless'ish cycle, the instruction say
"add 4 drops per gallon" I'm just not sure wether thats a US gallon or an Imperial Gallon.

Anyone used this before?

Is it an American product? Is the bottle size in ounces or ml?
I'd suggest that, if the bottle size in in ounces, then the gallons are US.
I think @Sue is familiar with the Dr Tim's products, so perhaps she can confirm the instructions for you.  :)

Alternatively, take a litre of water and add enough to get 3ppm by adding some, testing how far you get etc...

Bottle says 2oz 60ml

Does say 4 drops is 0.2ml so I've used Sue's cycle post

https://forums.thinkfish.co.uk/fishtank-filtration-and-cycling/fishless-cycling-how-to-do-it/

to work out how many drops for 130 litre.

"0.2ml ammonia per 10 litres" = 13 (130 / 10 litres) x 0.2ml (4 drops) = 52 drops (hope no-one has to correct my maths  :yikes: )

Ammonia is in, just waiting approx 1hr for circulation and then gonna check how close to 3ppm we're at.

I thought a gallon was 3.785 litres. Fortunately this would mean that you've not added enough rather than too much...

Since Dr Tim's is an American company they will be American gallons. And the concentration won't be equivalent to 9.5% ammonia solution so you can't use the guide amount in the sticky.

1 American gallon = 3.785 litres according to the calculator on here. So 4 drops per 3.785 litres.

3.785 litres need 4 drops, therefore 130 litres need 3.875/4 x 130 = 137.38 drops

If 4 drops = 0.2 ml, 137.38 drops = 0.2/4 x 137.38 = 6.869 ml.

You can always add more, don't forget to add the drops you use together so you know how many drops in total you used for the 3 ppm dose.

I like maths  ;D I got grade 1 O level, and wanted to do A level maths but the lessons were held at the same time as biology and biology won out.

Thanks Sue,  my son is being supervised as we speak checking the current ammonia levels  C:-)

Ammonia: 0.5 - 1 ppm (52 drops)

Added further +88 drops, total = 140 drops = 2-4ppm

Hoping my starfish and crocodile (photo) can handle the ammonia buildup  :rotfl:

Not my choice by the way, it is a birthday present after all, so they wanted to pick all the decor.
