ok so some of you know iam a engineer by trade and i have been looking into these ply wood made tanks alot of late as i have had the urge for a tank upgrade and want to fit it into a weird shape in my house , now the custom glass tanks and stands i have been looking at with the word custom involved have been heart attack makeing prices which brings me onto the ply wood i have done some rough price calcualtions on the cost from everything from the wood to the screws and it works out althow not cheep by any means a dam site cheaper than a glass one and has the advantages of being more fleaxable with the design.with the biggest outlay actauly being on the pond amour paint that i will be using to coat the wood with to make it water proof (althow the wood actualy be the biggest outlay but i already have alot of it left over from other projects ) .
i was wondering if anyone has seen or even has any of these tanks and what people think of them.

I've never seen one.

I take it you mean back and sides made of ply with a glass front.

yes or you can make it so there is front and back glass or even with ship portholes if you like the design is fairly up to yourself. they seem to be far more popular in usa than they are in uk for some reason.
there is a few tutorials on you tube and one person who has a channel has gone into it in great depth over a 6 episode show .i really like the idea of them as you can design them to your tastes .

Interesting.

You could be really creative when it comes to the shape and dimensions.

yes you can thats what has attracted me to it althow they do recomened that when creating shapes you do need to make sure that the panels are of a decent length  due to haveing to have a panel on the outside that overlaps the join and also because of the internal top bracing. iam actualy planning mine to go round and into the corners of a old chimney breast in my house that has had the fire removed.

That's a good idea. It would be very helpful for anyone else who wants to build a plywood tank.

That would be a really interesting project to follow.
From planning, to building and installing, planting (if that's the plan) and stocking.

I look forward to it.
