Title: lighting for my custom made tank

I have purchased  second hand custom made but so far have only found lightin minimum24" length. My tank is 21" square. Can lighying go diagonally across a tank? Or is there an alternative to the sizes i have seen?

A few questions before I can give you much of an answer.  Do you intend to grow plants?  If so, it makes your choice of lighting more important (and more complicated). Secondly, you say in your question that you

What exactly have you been looking for?  Many lights are less than 24" long; Are you searching for a ready-made aquarium lighting "solution" and you have only found 24" ones or ... ??? is some form of DIY solution satisfactory?
