Is Superfish Home 25 Aquarium too small?

Hi all, it's been a while. I've been getting on pretty much OK (I'll post a separate algae problem post) and everyone is getting on OK.

You might remember I was down to 2 female pear gourami's, big girl still bullies little girl but they seem to get on much better. So to my question.....

I was going to try and get a few more girls and a male, but given last time I had a string of causalities I'm not putting any more fish in the tank without them being in quarantine first. But I've only got a 25 litre 47 x 25 x 28.5 cm, that had been used previously as a hospital tank.

I know it's too wee for gourami permanently but is it still too wee if just used for quarantine? If OK could I put 3 gourami in there or is that really pushing it? Or would one at a time be better?

If I need to get a bigger tank for this purpose what would be the best size and how long should I keep them in there, 4 weeks?

Thanks

It does depend on how big they are. Very young ones could be OK - though at that age it would be hard to tell males from females. Or get the male and females separately. The females should be bought together - they are not usually as aggressive as males, but if you put one in the tank then a second a few weeks later the first one could object to another female in 'her' space.

Thanks Sue, I'll check around some LFS have wee ones, and some have much bigger where the males are obvious. There is always the excuse to buy another tank!
