Stupid Question No. 527:
I have a Marina S15 filter... a HOB, as Sue calls it. When I clean the tank, I also clean the filter a bit. Now, bear with me....you know the little flat spouty bit that the water trickles over (like a little waterfall) well, that gets quite gunged up along the edge, with green, fairly firm algae stuff. I usually scrape or pick that off, but it occurs to me......should I? It's probably a silly thought but am I destroying precious bacteria by doing that? :-\

I get that on my filters too. I have mini spray bars and I use a straightened out giant paperclip to remove it.
Yup, kept awake all night by the wind. And the chap is coming Monday to refix the bits of dry verge that are coming off.

Imagine a tiled roof. At the side where the roof meets the wall, the narrow gap used to be filed in with mortar. This used to crack over the years and fall out, so you had to get it repointed. Nowadays the gap is covered with plastic segments that have a lip over the top and underneath the tiles. They are supposed to be maintenance free. Unless there is a gale which loosens them.
To be fair, the company that fit ours also did a lot more in the neighbourhood and ours is the only house that has problems. The only thing they can think of is the way our house is aligned with next door. Next door's house (two storey), their one storey attached garage, an 8 foot gap then our house. The wind seems to flow over their roof, dip into the gap, get deflected by their garage then it swirls up our wall and sort of sucks the plastic sections off. Twice. Last time it was repaired with very long screws and so far this section has remained intact. The wind was in the opposite direction from usual last night and it blew almost off the very end bit just by the gutter.
