Do I need Eheim Installation set 2?

I cannot get my head working on this problem!!

I wish to drop my Eheim spraybar about 3" below the water level. It is connected to the rigid plastic with 16/22 hosing for which I have plenty, but with the standard set up supplied I cannot get the spraybar more than "just" under the water line.

The problem is that the hose is pretty inflexible and even if I could "bend" it enough of course that would narrow the hosing.

So will I be better off getting the Eheim Installation set 2? I know that it is not that expensive but there must be another way without having to lay out up to £20 to get the desired result.

I have tried "shaping" the hose whilst hot after dipping in water just off the boil but without much success.

I am probably missing a very simple and obvious solution but cannot work a good way around this problem so anyone who has overcome this?

Hi Mervyn,
The spray bar I made was from clear plastic/acrylic rigid tube that I bent to form the shepherds crook end for the inlet. To get the bend in the pipe I used the thickest version of the gardens tying wire I could find and inserted inside the tube to stop it kinking when it is bent. Dipped the bit to be bent in really hot water and gently curved it to the shape I wanted. Don't try to bend it too much with the first warming. When I had the shape I wanted I carefully drilled the holes for water outlet and sealed the open end with silicone sealant for an aquarium. On the other end I attached some eheim tubing with some sealant on the joint and then put an eheim shut off connector on the end of the tube so I could dismantle the whole thing to clean it. Cost £6 plus time.  Fitted the tank perfectly as it was made to size, and was clear and not too visible under the water. Good luck

Hi Brecon,

It is a piece of hose that I cannot bend into the shape that I want. To make matters worse the spray bar stretches almost from end to end. What I need to be able to do is connect to the inlet pipe whilst allowing the spraybar to be lowered to about 3" below the waterline.

Hi Mervyn,
You really do not need to ower your spray bar if you are going to install the CO2 unit. My initial advice was based on you having a tank without CO2 supplement. Lowering the spray bar would minimize surface agitation and preserve the natural occuring CO2. With additional CO2 running you don't need to do this - or shall I say: you must not do it. Please, bear in mind that any advice given is based on the current conditions and cannot be treated as a universal rule.
