Title: Dispersing the outflow from my filter

Hi,

I have my filter pump adjusted to its slowest setting, however still seems to create a fairly strong current from the outflow. I want to try and disperse the outflow, so I have been trying to find a good way of doing this. Is a spray bar a good way of dispersing the outflow more evenly or would put a filter sponge over the outflow work? (I don’t want to burn the pump motor out by making it overwork by adding sponges etc.)

A spray will reduce it but they say a good flow filters more water, can you direct the flow to the glass to deflect it a little, try adding a piece of hose to deflect it if you can't.
I wouldn't use the sponge though, also what type of sponge have you in the filter, sometimes the finer filter gauze can reduce the flow too, do you know the make of the filter?

What is the filter, and how big is the tank? And how much does it matter what it looks like?

Things you can do include - direct the outflow against the tank wall; fit the foot of a pair of tights or a layer of filter wool over the outflow; use an empty 2 litre pop bottle (I can explain that further if wanted)

Sorry, I was reeling of the list that came to my mind, and I didn't think to check on what you had written  :-[

But you didn't mention the pop bottle method  ;D

That is one of the main problems with forums, a lot of people only read the first post then scroll down to reply without reading the rest.
If ever I repeat what another poster has said, I always say something like, "As already mentioned," or "I agree with xxx above." you get used to it after you've been on a few forums.

I usually do that - been using the old Thinkfish forum since 2006! Only this time I was in a bit of a rush as I wanted to get the washing hung out (finally a day without rain!!!!) and I only skimmed the thread.

thanks for all the advice,

I was able to direct the flow against the glass more and have also added a Poly Pad at the beginning of my filter which has helped too.
