Condensation dripping down back of tank when hood opened

Hi all,

I have an interpret fish pod 48l for my betta and an interpret 64l insight. When I open the hoods on both, the condensation drips down the back of the tank - poor design I think! I've bought 2 condensation trays and was wondering if when I cut them to size it is ok to cover the whole surface of the water or I need an additional gap as well as the small cuts to fit the wires for the heater and filter through so the water gets enough oxygen?

Many thanks,

Matt.

I just cut mine to allow for the leads and the air flow. I dont know why they just dont make tanks with them tbh.

That is the one downside of my tank too - I keep a box of tissues to hand to catch the drips as they roll down.

[My old Clearseal tank had a great lid with in-built condensation tray and feeding hole - great idea and also very handy for setting the automatic feeder in. The hood looked like one of these http://www.aquarium-supplies.co.uk/hoods.htm and it sat on the tank's brace bars - so might even be an alternative option if your tank had these and the current lid were detachable.]

I use a condensation tray in my 50 litre tank. I cut a hole near one side under the feeding flap in the lid for feeding the fish though. Since I had to trim the sides t make it fit, I used strips of these edges superglued to the underside of the square to hold the square in place when I'm not feeding the fish.
The tray wouldn't work in this tank without a bit of extra help. Because the lid sits tight around the glass I could only have had an overlap the same thickness as the glass - 6mm. But my betta's tank has plastic holders for the cover made for 6mm glass - all the ones I could find on Ebay were for 8mm glass - so I bought some designed for the betta's tank to hold the tray in the 50 litre.

I have a slightly different version of this tank but, I've found that the trick to prevent drips is to open the tank lid to a 45 degree angle reasonably quickly and then pause whilst the condensation drips - you will see that at this point the back of the tank lid is angled so that the drips hit the 'condensation channel' at the top of the glass (my own terminology, you'll hopefully see what I mean!) and run back into the main tank.  Hope that helps!
