Title: Arcadia LED Luminaire not ramping up correctly
Post by: daveyng on March 17, 2018, 05:56:31 PM
Hi, I have been using an Arcadia Classica LED luminaire over my planted tank.
It’s coming up for 4 years old and has developed a bizarre fault.
The controller ramps the lighting up to full power over 30 minutes but the LED’s take
Approximately 3 hours to reach full intensity. I suspect the components in the luminaire are gradually failing and it will require replacement.
I am considering using 2 Kessil A80 lighting units instead and was wondering if anyone has previous experience with these units.
Any thoughts greatly appreciated.

It sounds like it is more likely to be an issue with the controller or driver (compatibility?) The way LEDs work is that when they fail, they usually just turn off (and because you usually have several LEDs in a unit, it leads to dark spots).

But having said that, I've not got my head around the theory of dimmable LEDs yet. But I did think that they are pretty new technology, so I was surprised when you said you'd had them 4 years. (Or has children warped my sense of time more than I thought?!)

I seem to recall at the time there wasn’t many LED units that would perform this task, specifically in this price range. The controller also allows you to set the a maximum light intensity on a scale of 0-24 (I have always used the maximum level).

I seemed to have found where the problem lies. There appears to be heat discolouration around components in the main luminaire. see attached.
