New substrate - which one?

Hi, after a few problems with my tank I need to change my substrate, I want to keep soft water fish (we have very soft tap water) and would like to have a well planted tank.  Can anyone suggest the best substrate for successful plants for a novice?
Thank you

Tropica plant substrate seems to be workin good for me , good growth from all plants in a small amount of time with no co2 and not much light
