Title: Joey Mullen v George Farmer
Post by: Andy The Minion on September 09, 2017, 05:38:21 PM
Did anybody else see this on Joey Mullen's King of DIY Youtube channel?
<a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t26gmMQk9Pg" target="_blank">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t26gmMQk9Pg</a>
This guy is a Canadian aka UaruJoey with a massive fish related channel, as the name suggest it is focused on Aquarium DIY projects.
He is coming over to the UK to 'challenge' George Farmer to a aquascaping competition. Joey is about as good an aquascaper as I am (and I'm laughably poor) so its not going to be a real competition unless he somehow manages to blindfold George :)
The event takes place in London at Aqua Depot NW10 6HH on the afternoon of the 14th Oct.
It is free but I have no idea how big the venue is or how full it will be.

I did see it.  The plan is for them to have 30 minutes to do the scape and for them to have challenges every three minutes... One arm tied behind your back for the next three minutes, choose someone from the audience to take over for the next three minutes etc...

You can suggest the challenges to them so get thinking!!

Wish I was nearer London, I'm sure it will be hilarious  :rotfl:

After seeing GF aquascape a tank at Aquarium Gardens I am a big fan (cough, cough, wonders if he could do 3 minutes in the same jeans & fitted t-shirt that he wore before, cough).

@Littlefish .... Can I just ask which scape you were looking at? "Oh! he's standing by a planted tank, how did that get there?"  ::)

In my defence, I went into work the following day, gathered a group of my female colleagues around my computer, and showed them a 20 second clip from the hour and a half of aquascaping tutorial, and they were also very impressed.
Just to be absolutely sure I sent the link to a few of my friends back in Cardiff, suggesting which 20 second to view, and the reviews/feedback were all very positive.

He is a very intelligent and charming chap, an excellent aquascaper, and I have enjoyed the articles that he has written for PFK.
The fact that he is also quite buff and spent a lot of time either bending over or stretching during the tutorial is neither here nor there, but I'm now looking for a high five emoji to send to one of the girls in Cardiff who has been sent the Youtube link because she wants to suggest that they wear board shorts and nothing else during the aquascape challenge.
 ;D

She posted the suggestion and sent me a screen shot as proof.  :rotfl:

I watch both their channels.  George should win easily no matter how distracting he may be to some.  :P

Joey's fish room is coming together nicely.  Shame he doesn't like to mix fish much as he'd be able to get so many more species in there.

Yes Joey is good at certain things but on others... he once nearly electrocuted himself, I have seen some of his wiring and its not surprising. The fact that he is still alive is perhaps the surprise.
I have also seen him trail a fresh water drip tube into his sump, this breaks a bunch of HSE/water safety regs.
No idea how he is still married with the amount of effort he puts into fishkeeping, the fish room is a colossal project and the fact that he is videoing all of it is truly amazing.
BTW @Littlefish I'm not very well placed to judge but I think he might also be classified as buff :)

@Andy The Minion I was not aware of Joey Mullen, and can't say that I have had a good look at him. I will set aside some time today to more thoroughly research said individual to see if you are correct about him also being classified as buff.
I take my research very seriously, and if any of the other forum user would care to help in the research to ensue a lack of bias, here is the link I showed to my colleagues of George Farmer, and in general you just need to have a look at approximately 1 minute of the clip, starting at the 6 minute mark.

Regardless of Joey's physical attributes, I'm very much team GF as far as the aquascaping is concerned.

@Littlefish checked at work. Shock news, they think he's gay. Good with plants, funny hairdo, beard was suspect as well apparently and finally "the good looking ones always are" (God, I hope he's not a member..... or at least that he has a good sense of humor or we are both in bother). I guess it is down to you to find out who is right, not sure how?

.... pause before I hit sent, bit nervous of angry little fish and aquascapers.

Ok, so Joey could also be classed as buff, but I'm still very much team GF on every level.

Talking of GF, he is married with kids. Not sure if that helps you with the discussions that you had in work.  ;D

I think the answer to your question, AtM, is in this post: http://www.tropicalfishkeeping.com/introduce-yourself/my-name-joey-363281/

Both are much better aquascapers than me, that's for sure, so I'll readily learn from either of them (and, surely, in this day and age, those other matters are inconsequential).

Oh well, thats the office gaydar in for re-calibration tomorrow. On the positive side the test method has been defined. I think we have all leaned something useful tonight. Good work Littlefish!

Hell no @fcmf Joey's sexuality was never in doubt! His kills everything he plants, has no face fungus (or hair to mention) and eats 2metres of 60mm acrylic sheet for breakfast :)

@Matt That's what I'm dreading. Luckily I can slip into a crowd of Minions and instantly disappear.  8)
